Saphir Haus

Nestled above the city of Hamilton, Montana, this beautiful home is surrounded by the majestic Bitterroot and Sapphire mountains. The homeowners, former Chicago natives, fell in love with the area and were eager to embrace their love of mountains and the serenity of nature. The property boasts three different structures:  the main house, a recreational barn and a bunkhouse, which prove to be perfect for this family of six who love entertaining their many friends and relatives. The overall goal was to update and modernize all of the structures while maintaining the farmhouse charm that is inherent in this private community. The main house was fully gutted and our first initiative was to maximize the views by replacing the existing windows with larger ones and adding additional ones where we could. It was also imperative that the homeowner, a gourmet cook, had a well-designed kitchen. To achieve this, we reconfigured the layout by closing off the dining room wall and bumping out the room so that it could include comfy seating and a door leading to the exterior kitchen for convenience. The office and primary bedroom were transformed with the addition of vaulted wood ceilings and the former layout was simplified by removing several posts that impeded the flow. Further, the floor-to-ceiling patio doors provided the inside/outside feel the client was hoping for. The cozy and serene palette flows from room to room with several different textures such as plaster walls, wallcovering, wood panelling, custom metal elements, unique artwork and lighting. The dark green mudroom, screened-in porch and the deep blue home office add depth without detracting from the softer tones throughout. The project continues with the addition of horse stables and finishing touches on the remaining structures.
